On Saturnday Septeber 3 2005 we bought two degus. Place of purchase was Faunatar at Raisio mall Mylly.
The larger one is a bit reddish and the other is darkgrey. Reddish one is called Punsku and the gray one Jyrkkä. Punsku is born April 27 2005 and Jyrkkä is born March 2 2005.
Degus are rather shy creatures and do not like to be touched. They are quite social animals anyhow and like to sleep in a pile. They are people shy and do not bond easily. For these two guys it took six months before they allowed to be touched. They were about six months old when they were bought so that might explain why bonding took so long a time. For a small babies bonding goes more easily, I think.
They love sand bathing and laying in the sun. Mind though that their cage should not be in direct sunlight. They have to have a choice to leave sun and go to shade whenever they feel need for it.

Treveling with degus is easy. They do not mind being in travel box. Some three hours seem to go just fine. For longer trips you should take care that they get water to drink.
